Near Brookings is the location for the northernmost redwood forest, the Oregon Redwoods. This forest is located a short distance from town, up the Chetco River.

Alfred A. Loeb State Park

Located on the wild and scenic Chetco River, the Alfred A. Loeb State Park contains the northernmost redwood grove in the U.S. The park is nestled in a grove of 200-year-old myrtlewood trees where you can marvel at the osprey and eagles as they carry their catch to their nests. You can fish, swim or raft in the Chetco, or investigate the stream side nature trail. The Chetco offers some of the finest salmon and steelheads fishing so sit back relax and enjoy your vacation while you wait to haul in your catch.

From the camping area, there is a 3/4 mile long riverview hike to the Redwood Nature Trail.

Facilities include 3 log cabins, 48 campsites and restrooms, paved parking, picnic tables, firerings, flush toilets and hot showers. Campsites cannot be reserved in advance. However, the 3 cabins that can be reserved.

The Alfred A. Leob State Park is located just over 8 miles (13 km) from Brookings, on the Oregon Coast. To reach the park, turn east of US Highway 101, just north of the Chetco river bridge onto Constitution Road and immediately right onto North Bank Chetco River Road and follow to the park.

Oregon Redwoods

Just a short distance north of the California Redwoods are the Oregon Redwoods. These huge trees represent the only coast redwoods found in the Pacific Northwest Region, located at the limit of their northern range. The trail is a moderately challenging day hike opportunity which when combined with the Oregon Redwoods Trail -  #1106 provides a 1.6 mile loop.

Oregon camping opportunities include the Ludlum House Recreation Area and the Winchuck Campground.
