Whale Watching Near Brookings, Oregon

The state parks north of Brookings offer ideal viewpoints for whale watching as they travel up and down the coast. The best time is during the spring or late fall migration, but you may be able to spot a spout any time during the height of summer vacation.

During Whale Watch Week (generally last week of December and March), volunteers are located at Harris Beach and Cape Ferrelo. Cape Ferrelo is located in the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor.

Cape Ferrelo

Cape Ferrelo is one of the best places to watch for whales. It is located near mile 351 on Route 101. The cape and the viewing area is about one-half mile west of the parking lot.

The Oregon Coast Trail travels through Cape Ferrelo and it is part of the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor.

Cape Ferrelo is located just north of Brookings.
