ATV's near Coos Bay in the
Oregon Dunes Recreation Area
There are Class I (dune buggy) opportunities to the north, with Class III (motorcycle) trails to the east and south. Campgrounds especially tailored for off road enthusiasts are located in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Are.
The Dunes Recreation Area is located just north of Coos Bay / North Bend. To reach the dunes, travel north on Route 101, the Pacific Coast Highway, across the Isaac Lee Patterson Bridge. The dunes start just past the north side of the bridge.

In addition to the dunes, the Blue Ridge ATV Trails are located in the nearby mountains.
SandFest is held in the Boxcar area of North Bend and is 5 days of fun in the sand dunes at the end of June into early July each year.
Spinreel Campground
Spinreel Campground is designed for ATV, dunebuggy, quad campers and has 36 sites for tents, autos and trailers. Drinking water and flush toilets are available. There is direct sand access to a large off-highway vehicle riding area.
Spinreel Campground is located 11 miles south of Reedsport, Oregon, and 13 miles north of Coos Bay on Spinreel Road. Spinreel Road is just south of Lakeside and Tenmile Creek.

Horsfall OHV Campgrounds
Horsfall OHV Campground and Horsfall Beach OHV Campground are designed for off-highway (ATV, dune buggy, quad, sand rail) vehicle oriented camping. North Split Hike - Coos Bay
The North Split Hike is a four mile trail across the dunes, then along the Pacific Ocean. The trail is open to ATV's and four-wheel drive vehicles except during Snowy Plover season (which is usually March 15 to September 15). The wreck of the New Carissa was a major attraction to the area, but it was removed in 2008. But even without the attraction of the wreck, the hike or drive reveals the beauty of the Oregon Dunes and the Pacific Ocean.
To get there, turn west off of Route 101 at the Horsfall Dunes and Beach road sign at Jordan Cove Road. After crossing the train tracks, veer left on the Trans Pacific Lane. Continue about 4 miles to the parking area on the right.
The North Split Hike is just north of Coos Bay.

Riley Ranch Campground
Update: Bridge construction over the train tracks to the dunes is complete! Access to the dunes is open. Riley Ranch County Park is located at milepost 227 on US Highway 101 just west of the community of Hauser, Oregon and 6 miles north of North Bend, Oregon. Riley Ranch is adjacent to the Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area. The campground currently consists of 50 campsites (all are reservable) with water and electrical hookups, and two 16’ x 20’ camping cabins. One restroom facility has been constructed and more are planned. Expansion of the 'A' loop and construction of the 'C' loop is expected to be completed in 2012. A second set of restrooms, between these two loops, is expected to be built during the summer of 2012, supplementing the existing one. There are currently 42 campsites roughed in and available for overflow until the utilities are installed. When completed, Riley Ranch will be able to accommodate both ATV (dune buggy, quad) and Equestrian groups. There are no immediate plans to have a RV sanitary dump in this campground. Blue Ridge ATV Trails
Twelve miles of more difficult trails and gravel or dirt roads. Trails were developed in association with the Coos County Riders Association. The trail system is a web of trails which can be ridden alone or linked with gravel roads.
The trail is open year-round but please stay off trails when wet (October through June). Contact land managing agency for trail status.
Located about 15 miles southeast of Coos Bay.
From Coos Bay – From the south end of Coos Bay, head 4 miles south on US 101 and turn left onto Coos-Sumner Lane. Continue on for 7.6 miles. Turn left onto Blue Ridge Road. (BLM Rd. # 26-12-4.2). Continue on for 2.4 miles and turn right onto Road # 26-12-35.0. Go 0.1 mile and turn right onto Road # 26-12-35.1. Go 0.9 mile and turn left onto Road # 26-12-35.4. Continue on 0.3 mile to the parking area.
Winchester Trail System
The Winchester Trail System was originally envisioned as a 30 mile system of trails for use by hikers, equestrians and off road ATV's. However, today, the system is limited to 17 miles and is used mostly by mountain bikers and Class III ATVs (off road motorcycles). The trails are dirt with lots of ruts, roots and the terrain is steep, making it perfect for those up to the challenge. The trails are now maintained by volunteers but the signage is not up to date. A still useful, but somewhat out of date trail map is available for download.
This is an active logging area, so look out for trail closures. The gravel roads are not to be used for recreation, except for short distances to connect to the trails.
The trail head is located 12 miles (19 km) south of Coos Bay on US Route 101 at mile marker 251. There is not a parking lot, so park off the side of the road in the gravel just prior to an uphill with a passing lane.
