Where to go Surfing at the Beach
Gold Beach - Port Orford

Surfing and windsurfing opportunities abound at the uncrowded beaches. Favorite spots are just south of Port Orford, and just south of the Rogue River jetty in Gold Beach. Both areas are easily accessible from Route 101.

Gold Beach is home of the world famous Pistol River Wave Bash, a double elimination windsurfing contest will be run during the two best days of wind and waves. The Pistol River Wave Bash has become one of the stops on the world windsurfing tour.

Port Orford Surfing

The best spot for surfers near Port Orford is at Battle Rock. There is a parking lot and restrooms. About a mile further north, there is an unofficial parking lot on the east side of US Route 101, near a creek, another popular spot for surfers.

Licensed vehicles are allowed on the beach with access off of Route 101 just south of the Battle Rock rest area.

Battle Rock is located in Port Orford, on the south side of town, just off of US Route 101.  There is beach access for 4-wheel drive licensed vehicles (off road vehicles not allowed) at the south end of Port Orford.

Rocky Point

Rocky Point is a scenic pull off with views of Humbug Mountain to the south. It is also a favorite place of locals to dig up butter clams at low tide. The area is popular with whale watchers, windsurfing and scuba diving.

Rocky Point is located 2 miles south of Port Orford, Oregon, along US Route 101.

Floras Lake - Boice-Cope County Campground

Flora Lake is ideal for windsurfing and kiteboarding. Kayaking is also a favorite on the lake. Nearby trails make hiking in the area easy. A short walk from the boat launch is the beach, which is frequently deserted. Located near Flora Lake is Boice-Cope County Campground with 34 campsites, 22 of which are paved. Gold Beach Surfing

Surfing in the summer is great in Gold Beach. Pull in at the south Jetty of the Rogue River and join in with the friendly Pelicans, Sea Lions and the occasional Dolphin.

Located just south of Gold Beach is the location for the annual Pistol River Wave Bash.

The Pistol River Wave Bash

Come visit with us at the Oregon South Coast for the Pistol River Wave Bash, June 14th-17th, 2012. This is a great window for windsurfing as the sailing season is in full swing and the swells are still hitting. The four day window and will run two days of best conditions for windsurfing and two of the lesser windy days for fun SUP contests.

Gold Beach Fairgrounds, at 29392 Ellensburg Ave, is the location for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as camping for all! This event is long overdue and is guaranteed to bring in a huge group of windsurfers from all around the world. Open your calendar. You won't want to miss this contest! Come join us for what promises to be the largest US wave sailing contest of 2012.
